People love to rep where they’re from or where they live. Plenty of apparel gets sold daily emblazoned with our nation's name, the name of our province or our city. Anyone can find a Calgary t-shirt in the airport gift shop or bargain bin with a corny, postcard-esque picture of the Saddledome or Tower on it. Of course, the font on the shirt is some unimaginative variation of Comic Sans, the fabric colour is bright red and it’s cheaply manufactured. Not only does this shirt look and feel bad (and will shrink) but it doesn’t do much good for the community either. However, with the founding of Local Laundry Apparel, there’s an option to represent Calgary that you can feel good about wearing and buying while looking great doing so.

As part of our Entrepreneurial Endeavours initiative, QuadRipple is always looking to meet with and feature local small businesses and entrepreneurs. Last week we met with ATB Financial, which is certainly is not a small business, in fact they are serving more businesses than any other bank in Alberta! However, we wanted to meet with ATB Financial because of their commitment as a large business to helping small businesses.
In case you haven’t heard, Secret Barrel is a new company based in Calgary producing white rum. To be honest, we we’re skeptical at first. Reaffirming our stereotypes of rum during the tasting, the gents at Secret Barrel were quick to point out the perception of rum in Canada: “A really crappy alcohol in a plastic screw top 26 with a pirate, palm tree or beach towel on the label strictly for mixing with copious amounts of coke to get it down your gullet only to blackout and do it all again the next day.” Yes, it’s thought of as an amateurish college drink and maybe even more so an illicit high school one because most college folks after 1st year are the ones who have been smart enough to steer clear of the stuff.
